Hi All
I was just out watering yesterday and saw bananas growing on my tree.... It's been growing for a year....was transplanted from my neighbor. My neighbor said to cut the bloom pod off under the bananas to make them grow larger.... Said it sucks the growth out of them like sucker leaves with tomatoes. Before I do that I want to make sure from the experts!

Thx in advance

Youtube has some pro videos from the farmers that did show that. Said to remove shriveled spent flowers and petal from the big bud then clip off the tip. What i did was leave the female flowers for bananas and left it produce male flowers so I could eat the sugar. Then I broke off the end. Asian people will cook the end part.

Some do, some don't. I read on here that studies have shown very little difference, so it's like your hair. Cut it if you want to, don't if you don't.

That said, you can eat both the little flowers after removing the tough stamens from inside them, and the white center is supposed to be similar to artichoke hearts.. You will find plenty of recipe's online.

And... Welcome to the bananaheads.
