What kind of fertilizer should be used?

For bananas it's generally recommend something with an NPK ratio of 2-1-3 works best. For ornamentals use something with a bit more N. I also like to use a bit higher N in the spring to get things going.

I go with composted cow/sheep/chicken manure. Winter time is with worm compost.

I use high end micro nutrient rich 8-10-10. Slow release.

I use 8 - 8 - 8 and i feed every other week and water well.

I use 6-3-16 but that is due to the conditions of my soil. You are going to get different recommendations due to the differences of soil around the world. Just remember that bananas are heavy potassium feeders and a soil test is worth it's weight in gold.
