Greetings,

It has been a while since I lasted posted.

My various bananas seem to be doing alright.

However, I noticed something about one of my corms that seemed unusual in that it has never happened to me before.

It seems that my Blue Java from Going-Bananas has decided to put out two flowers at the same time on different psuedostems. I didn't know how common an occurrence this was. So was wondering if anyone else could comment.

I have a theory as to how this happened, but I have no way to test it that I know of. My theory is: that a previous cut-down psuedostem that was in the middle between the two flowering ones somehow split the corm off into two distinct sections underground. On the surface it looks like the two psuedostems are close enough to me to still be attached as one corm. However, I concede that as a possibility if I am mistaken.

If I am not wrong however, here are some photos:

The left stalk has put out a short leaf, but not a red flower as of yet. I expect that to follow shortly. The right stalk has already been flowering for some time, and produced a bunch of bananas. The short plant in the middle top photo is not a blue java at all, but a FHIA 17 in a bad place for photo taking.

any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks.

Play the lottery with that luck, congrats!

This seems normal. The more p-stems you keep, the more likely it is that more than 1 in the same mat will be fruiting at a given time.

Like Rob said, this is very normal and just the way bananas grow. It takes roughly the same amount of time for each sucker to grow to maturity and fruit, so if two emerge at around the same time, later on they will fruit at about the same time. Unless something directly interferes, each sucker will eventually fruit.

On an unrelated note, your plant appears to be 'Namwah' and not the true 'Blue Java', which is a common mixup discussed at length elsewhere on the forum.
