I got some free trunks from someone and put them around my pond and now 2 of them are fruiting. I have a post in the ID section to see if I can get a idea of what kind. Question is now what...do I need to do anything to get them ready to eat or just let them do there thing until they look done? And did I read right some eat the purple bud on the bottom at some point?

Thanks :nanadrink:

You can pull the bud apart and the undeveloped flowers are said to be good fried or in salads after you take out the stamens inside as they are tough, and the core they say, it's like an artichoke heart... I have not tried it yet.

As for the bananas, let them fill in, and to be certain your first time, check daily and cut the bunch as soon as a few start to yellow. It takes 3-6 months for them to get from flowering to ripening, so you know...

Keep reading on here, and you will learn all you need to know.

Ah wow long time ok. It's probably been 2 weeks or so since I first noticed the purple pod sticking out of the top so I got a while. Thanks.
