New member checking in. I stumbled across this place while researching my newly found treasure, a Musella Lasiocarpa. Looks like a wonderful site here. Apparently I've got lots to learn. i didn't know there were so many different species of bananas. I live in Cypress Texas (Houston pretty much). If anyone else is growing bananas in this area please share what species you grow. I'm looking to add a few more down the line.

Welcome to Bananas.org!
M. Lasiocarpa should do well in your area. There are other banana varieties that will do well in your area. Edible fruiting varieties include: Texas Star, D. Orinoco, CA Gold - with very minimum winter protection; and Dwarf Brazilian, D. Cavendish, Raja Puri -w/ a little more winter protection.
TX Star, according to Ty Ty Nursery, has survived below freezing weather (allegedly without winter protection) there in TX. It is originally from Wichita Falls, TX. (If you find a source for this variety there, please let me know. Thanks. I bought a pup from someone there, but didn't it was a water pup. It grew to about 14", but did not survive in my cold greenhouse last winter. Without the bloom and fruit, I wouldn't know if it was the real thing.)
CA Gold is the most celebrated cold hardy edible fruit bearing banana. You will find tons of articles/discussions attesting to this banana, including myself. Do a search on California Gold Banana here in this forum and find out.

Everybody gets thanks for posting in my intro topic! :)
Richard, I added myself to the member map and a few details in my profile. I'll try to add more when I'm not at work ;)
Chong, Thanks for the info on the other species. I'll be researching those as soon as I get a chance. As for the TX. Star, I'll let you know if I come across them.
Many Thanks!!
