An update/progress!

Keith (PR-Giants) recommended to inspect/check the Manini corm for any rotten, soft spots/sides on the corm at least 9 to 10 days after I received the corms....

Yesterday, June 01, 2016, I inspected the Manini corm.....To my surprise!....The Manini corm had so many well develop roots in such a little time!....In just 9 days!.....No rotten, soft spots/sides on the Manini corm!....It was amazing, incredible!....Coarse sand is just "rocket fuel" for the Manini corm!....:08:

Keith sent me a huge Manini corm, which I received on May 23, 2016....Thanks Keith for everything!....

Picture taken on 05/23/2016......

http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=59879 (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=59879)

http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=59880 (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=59880)

http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=59881 (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=59881)

http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=59882 (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=59882)

After I finished the inspection of the Manini corm, I put everything back together...Also, since the Manini corm is the hardest to grow compare to the rest of the corms and it is doing so well, the rest of the corms should be ok, fine!...I noticed that the coarse sand was holding the moisture enough so there is not need to add any frequently water (irrigation)....Since I put back the Manini corm on the pot, I just added a little bit of water to take out the "air pockets" traps within the sand .....

More updates coming soon!.....:bananarow:

As I said before, my corms are about a week behind yours. I was going to be out of town for a few days recently so I repotted some of mine from coarse sand into a different soil mix that would hold more moisture. It's been hot here in my part of Texas and I was concerned that they would dry out too much in the coarse sand. But since I wasn't sure if that was the right thing to do, I left the last 2 corms as they were in the coarse sand as an experiment. When I came home it was very apparent that the ones I had repotted had grown more. So I decided to wash the coarse sand off the last 2 corms and repot them. The first one I did was my Patupi and it had only *one* small root! Aha! I thought that I should have repotted all of them. But when I did the last one it was full of roots and they had hit the edge of the pot and started growing upward from there! My conclusion is that the problem with my Patupi wasn't that it was still in coarse sand. (My wife watered while I was gone.) I think the problem was the corm itself. My Patupi corm looks like your Goldfinger corm - kinda cut off at an angle, rather than being more completely round as the others. I will watch my Patupi, as you are watching your Goldfinger. Hopefully they will catch up with the others.

*****Update*****

In just 5 months for being on the ground (tans-planted on July 7, 2016) The Patupi is putting out the flag leaf!....In my growing conditions, definitely The Patupi is a "monster grower!".....She is about 9 feet tall right now!....Beautiful banana plant!...I never thought that I will see or experience this kind of fast growing!....it is incredible!...I'm amazed!....It will be a true test to keep track of the Patupi pup to flower!....

Thank you Keith (PR-Giants) for everything!....

(trans-planted on July 7, 2016)....Six hands of VC banana fruits for a small VC plant!....Veinte Cohol has 2 pups!....The VC pups (second crop) should grow to a "normal" size; bigger, taller than the mother plant!.....

An undersized bunch is the disadvantage of starting with that huge 20" corm and is the reason why I don't plant those huge corms. However they are useful for producing a super fast growing giant follower. It's basically the same technique we use for plants that have needed to be cut back because of a storm. Instead of letting them flower and produce an undersized bunch, we let them regrow a full set of leaves and then start restricting their growth which then redirects most of it's resources into the pup. What you'll have is two plants working together to quickly produce one very large bunch.

1G is the plant crop/corm/first generation, and it is kept alive and growing while it's pup 2G produces the bunch. 2G is the ratoon crop/second generation and 3G is it's pup and the next follower.
