Hi I am quite new to the banana growing world, since I just got my first plant a few days ago. I purchased Musa Basjoo because it's the only one that can grow in WNY (Western New York). After I received the plant I read about water suckers vs sword suckers which got me worried. I bought my banana on eBay (sooo cheap) and was wondering if my banana was a dreaded water sucker or if that even mattered. As I look at most photos of people starting bananas mine looks very similar. Mine has been in the ground for 2 days and in it's container for 2 days. No new leaves yet but I think one leaf has grown. I hear people talking about 1 inch per day growth rate and I want mine to do that as well.

Anyway attached are some photos of my beautiful little M. Basjoo. I hope u can all give me some feedback.

It looks very healthy - I doubt its a water sucker, mosy likely its a tissue culture clone if you got it from ebay.

Does not look anything like a water pup, its not a sword either.
Looks to be a tissue cultured plantlet.
Should do fine, it will be a long process but with lots of fertilizer it will grow very fast. You will certainly notice the growth every few days.
Welcome to the forum and the world of bananas!

Thanks so much. What type of fertilizer is recommended? And can I expect it to grow into quite a big plant soon?
