hello there everyone ..I'm new boy in town! so please be gentle to me " I'm sensitive soul"....i would like to pick all your banana brains for some info please... I've got a semi shaded position free in my very much congested garden, it gets 3to4 hrs sun per day in summer, planted there at moment are tree ferns, aspidistras, parlor palms ,rhapis palms, ....would love to grow musa laiocarpa there? not worried the flowers just need a small banana as my basjoo is going for world domination ..hope to here from you all soon

if you have warm summers (I think you have; you grow rhapis outside)
then its good possible to grow a musella on that spot:D

world domonitation, huh? lol. that was great. btw welcome to the org!:2623:. im gonna plant mine on the west side of the house. it gets morning shade but lots of afternoon sun. i dont know exactly how many hours of sun the musella needs but you might want to give it more then 3-4 hrs. it could get leggy and start turning yellow. jmo. this is my first year with nanas and my first year planting them outside. but all nanas love the sun, some more then others. we have a page in the banana wiki that has information about the lasiocarpa, if you want to do some reading about her.

i live London UK...the summers are not hot, averaging out about 24 c daytime temps ...why rhapis is not problem grown outside as we have no winter to speak of here in London....poor light is our biggest drawback (we're crammed in like sardines) a building or tree is nearly always shading you out.

I have mine growing in semi-shade. Although I live in Texas and it can get up to 100 degrees Fareheit during the summer.

yeah.. most plants would benefit from being out of the harsh Texan sun!....i think it differs from our weak and watery mid summer sun ,we don't get good indirect light bounce around like you do. PS if you look on the map great britain is further north than the united states

I'd give it FULL sun in London. But it will survive either way.

thanks for the welcome kyle...as said before, i'm really looking for the leaf shape as i have a lot of palm trees " it's all looking a bit too spiky and little too Mediterranean for my liking" ..so i don't care if doesnt have flowers ,just looking broad leaves...( i hate cannas so they're a no go) just want to drink my beer in a rain forest..bring on global warming
