This question is more geared towards the FL growers of Sabas. How hurricane resistant is the Saba? My delema is placement in my yard. I only have a .2 acre lot with a 2400 sf house (total sf), so.. that means VERY SMALL yard, but yet I love the height. I just don't want to see this fall on my house (or any of my neighbores) in the event of a hurricane. What do you all do when you have a hurricane threat (or is there anything you can do)? Only "safe" place I could think of with it's height is by the street (NOT an option in my head though)! Thanks everyone!

Back during hurrican wilma just about all of my banana plants toppled over including the sabas. Man I am telling you it was a HUGE mess! I think the only prospects of saving the pseudostems is to build a tripod of 2x4's around them like they do in landscaping with new palm tree installations.

I was actually thinking about the palm tripod method in the event one is suppose to come near. Would removing all of the leaves also help as the wind wouldn't have that to catch onto? Hopefully this year we'll get missed here in FL!

suppose you just down the banana tree? I did that once here in coastal n.carolina. I cut the banana half way down and then I unrooted it and left it on the ground. it survived.
