How often do you guys fertilize your basjoo's and how much do you give them? Powder or liquid? Just want to get this right to grow the biggest basjoo's. I have 6 more coming Wednesday, for a total of 8!!!

Since you are not growing the Basjoos for fruit, rose fertilizer would be ideal. Follow the directions on the package.

Liquid fertilizers and liquid-soluble powders are readily absorbed by plants. Granular fertilizers take longer to break down but usually offer more nutrients.

I have been using big organic fertilizer spikes 5-2-4 with micros. 3 spikes per plant every month in my greenhouse potted bananas. The results have been outstanding. A company I consult for in Washington started manufacturing the spikes last year and my greenhouse and an organic tomato growers greenhouse were used as test plots. I listed them on my eBay store, here's the link if you want to look at them.

Yes, this is another great solution. For fruiting plants, I would supplement this with extra Potash. With 3 of the 5-2-4 spikes per plant, I would use 1/4 to 1/2 cup of 0-0-10 Potash per pot or plant per month, depending on pot or plant size.

I give about a cup of 10-10-10 per month. I can get 40 lb bags at lowes for about 5 dollars. I have since gotten chickens and I don't want them to eat the fertilizer so I won't use any this year. Maybe horse manure.

Chickens will not eat the fertilizer, so go ahead. I am trying chicken fertilizer on one of my naners and spraying a home brew on others.

Horse manure is another good choice. For fruiting naners and fruit trees in general you'll need about 3.5 cubic feet per year. Essentially, it is your mulch.
