Does anybody here know which cultivars produce red-ripening fruit? I can't get anything more than "rojitos" out of the farmers at the markets, and they won't sell me pups either. :2710: This leaves the nurseries, and they're beyond snooty down here. If I knew what to ask for I'd be way better off.

TIA guys!

The most common ones are 'Dwarf Red' and 'Tall Red'. You will see various forms of the 'Dwarf Red' also go as 'Jamaican Red' or 'Cuban Red'. The tall is also commonly referred to as 'Red Dacca' or 'Colorado' (though sometimes any of these names can refer to the dwarf or tall versions). There are many more names throughout the world for these plants, but I feel these are the ones you would most likely come across.

Cool! Now I know what to ask at the nurseries, at least.

Good luck with your hunt, Lorax! I managed to get a red fruiting banana in the last year - with no name though. Now I'm waiting to see what the fruit looks like. I find the descriptions on webebananas.com useful - might help you.
