View Full Version : Hello from Romania!
Hi,
I am Fabian, living in Bucharest, Romania. I like to grow a few types of exotics in my small garden, and hardy Musa hopefully will be amongst them. I was quite a xerophyle-type lover, both because I loved those plants and because they are so tough.
So, near hardy yucca and cacti, palms, bamboo and Musa will be seen together!
Glad to find you- nice forum, many informations!

Thank you all for such a warm welcome:2223:!
Well, I always loved bananas and even have 40 for each sikkimensis and itinerans, from seeds, about 7 years ago... they reached 1,6-1,8 m in the second fall but I dug them up and stored soilless and dry; treating them like bulbs wasn't the best idea- all dried and died.
Now I know a few things, and joining you will allow me to find more!
Greetings from Romania- nice Spring here:pinwheelnaner:!

Greetings from Romania- nice Spring here :pinwheelnaner:!
I've been looking at aerial photos of Bucharest, using Google Earth. Truly a beautiful city. I read that the elevation is between 60 and 90 meters. What area of town do you live in?
Well, my friend, it's maybe nice from the sky:-)))! Thanks!
I managed to find my location on map- it's done. The piece of land in the center, 25/45m, is mine- my house is built in 2005, and it's not on this old map.
I was a appartament-building guy, but sold all, buy that land and built a house.
I have a nasty Gypsyland to the East (that's why I was able to buy it, it was the cheapest :-)))), and the field to the West. Yes, at the very southern edge of Bucharest! Very windy, perfect for xerophyles, but not for palms and bananas. I will try my best!

If any of the Gypsy-people to the east are my relatives, I hope they are well-behaved. My mother's parents were Magyars who immigrated to the U.S. as children in about 1892.
Richard, not too many like you or some Gypsy friends of mine, unfortunatelly. On my street there are a few nice people amongst them, but some are really dangerous. Their problem is a vicious circle- too much to write here about, but here is a general free fall of values, and ruthless opportunism begin to be the trend for many Romanians as well. Our leaders are the first hypocrite thieves, so not much hope about- but the hope dies the last, it is said!
My father's father was an American citizen- left Makedonia (Albanian part) at 11, learned and worked hard 19 years- in RI, CT, MA- then return to Makedonia (Greek part), married and came to Romania. When I say "Makedonian", i don't referr to Greek or Slavic people using that name, but a group of South-Danubian Romanians.
Cheers!
Richard
