Picked this up at Atwoods today for $15. It was tagged "Musa" and was next to the Maurellii tagged "Musa" and the Sumatrana tagged "Musa". I think it's almost Certainly a Basjoo. We don''t get much of a selection of Banana's in Kansas. A lot of nurseries won't even mess with them. I see a lot of Sumatrana's for there pizzazz, and Basjoo's, for there hardiness. I was very surprised to see a Maurellii. I'm sure it may resemble others but around here Basjoo is my guess. Lime green Pseudo, Red rib, ribbed leaves, what do you think._nate

Sure doesn't look like any of my basjoo's. Leaves are much wider for the length.

Sam, your Basjoo might not have the red midrib yet because they aren't getting enough sun to do so. Basjoo always have red midrib.
There is the chance that yours are wrongly IDed, too.

i have all of my basjoos out in full sun, i bought them all from arachnid. i do believe they were labled correctly. i have one basjoo#5 that has the red in the leaves. now that i see the pics there is a slight red tint to 2 of the leaves. the pics were just taken and its fixing to cut a storm, so im sorry the pics are dark.

1 and 4 are definitely, see the red? Means that 2 and 3 are it too...most likely.

Mine are much like miskitty's. Much "pointier" leaves, Less round. Also about the same amount of pink midrib.

Look like Basjoo leaves to me Sam. Some seem to have more red than others. My dads have several leaves w/ maroon on the underside. They are Basjoo though. Pulled through the winter w/ only a small pile of leaves over them and are 6' plus already!

Nate,
it sounds like your father might get some blooms this year, at that height already!

wow nate thats cool. maybe he will get some flowers this year. when i looked at mine ( to take the pics i didnt relize that a basjoo could be the same species but look so different color wise. the #5 one that i have has the real red on the leave veins, where the other 2 are real light ( i didnt notice till i saw the pics) but then the others are just green. its amazing how they all differ. i love it!

At one of mine basjoo too all over again was red midrib, and then when to it became more light the redness was gone. Color of a leaf became more light.

Andrei, I noticed the wax on your pseudo in pic. 2. Odd that some seem to have wax about like an Orinoco and others none at all. Anyone else noticed this?

None of mine have ever had any wax but my leaves look just like that (second picture).

My basjoo too has no some wax. I wished to show a leaf, its changes. Nate, in the second picture pseudo Musa Sikkmensis, it has casually got in a picture.
