What's up with this stuff?!!! We are headed for a major frost this weekend. I have two bunches of Orinoco's ripening right now. Not to mention nectarines and apricots in full bloom... Are my Orinoco's doomed??? And beside heavy mulch, what would be the best material to cover the smaller banana plants with on top? I've been using tomato cages and newspaper. The wind is blowing so hard right now, I know my fruit trees are losing blossoms... :(

We just got our second snow of the year at 300 ft(Garberville CA), and after most every fruit tree has put out blooms too.
Good luck with your naners!

Sounds like your area is going to get much colder then mine. Weather.com says I will have a low of 45 tonight. Here's a thought, can you have a frost when it's raining? I thought frost only occurs on clear still nights when the dew-point reaches a certain point, and even then it's really only frosty 3 feet from the ground or lower?

It's 38 here right now and raining at the moment. Hoping the clouds stay put so no frost. We get a little colder where we live because we're on a high hill near a (manmade) lake.

So what's the word Anna? I has a little frost in the middle of the backyard this morning, but not too bad. Did you get any snow? I know a guy in Lancaster that got 6 inches of snow last night.

I went outside around 9 last night and it was sleeting, but ever so lightly. Just came back from south Corona, and we hit a few snowflakes over there. I just brought one of my smaller bananas in the house because it doesn't look very happy.

Wow, tropicallvr, I didn't know it would snow at that low an elevation!

80's?! I would love to see that here very soon!!!

My tiny banana I bought in the house already has a new leaf. I should have brought it in weeks ago!
