One of my banana friends advises me to use cheesecloth instead of straw/hay
mat in order to protecct pseudostem for overwintering.
The cheesecloth is to be rolled up around the pstem up to the crown, then,
he says, a comfortable environment is to be created in shutting down excessive
sunshine to prevent sauna phenomenon on the pstem, and preventing frosty
air from sneaking into the pstem.

Is there anybody who succeeded a similar method, please?
Or is it useless?

I use tarps. They have worked for me over the years. With Temps. as low as 23F.

I've used horticultural fleece in the past to wrap my bananas, haven't had to use it this year though as the winter wasn't too bad at all, well for basjoo anyway.
Probably a stupid question I know, but do you get fleece over there?
