Someone in Thailand is selling a chartreuse variegated Musa right now. It is listed under the Home & Garden section and I put "Musa banana" in the search. The leaves are almost completely yellow/chartreuse variegated. Very pretty, but listed as Musa heleconia variegated. Looks pure Musa of some sort to me. I think they wand either $150 or $199 plus $50 shipping, but someone ought to tissue culture that thing if possible.

That's actually at least the third one that seller has put up in the last few weeks. The first one went for around $175, the second $151. You have to add $35 for shipping.

The "Golden leaf banana" is the coolest of the two.

I think I have a picture of this one in my gallery somewhere. Let me check...
Yep. Here it is:

This isn't my picture, by the way. Hayes sent it to me, and allowed me to post it. I've had it for a couple of years, so this banana has been around for at least three years now. Still never seen one in the U.S. though. It is very striking! Better than the photo I have, which doesn't do it justice.
I'll be in Thailand in June! I'll be keeping my eye out for one.

Hey Frank, it seems that Thailand is the place to be. Maybe they have this stuff just stacked up in the Nursery section at the local Wal-Marts...(I'm sure they have Wal-Mart in Thailand, right?) Anyhow, it does seem like a bunch of the cool cultivars are coming out of Thailand. You'd think the folks at Going Bananas or Agri-Starts would be cranking stuff like this out from tissue culture. Isn't Ae Ae the only exception, or are all variegated Musa hard to TC?
