Insect ID!!!

I started cutting back my basjoos today and ran across several insects under the dead part of my pstems. I have never seen these on my bananas before and wondered if they are a pest or benefit. Anyway, I do not have a pic of them, but they are about 1/4" in length. They have a hard black shell with 4 orange spots/stripes on their back. There were not tons of them, but the were still quite a few on several of my pstems. Like I said they were running around underneath the dead layers, but on top of the live tissue. I didn't see any holes in the stems, but then again, I didn't inspect completely. Does anyone have any idea as to what they are? If someone wants to hazard a guess, I will google it and take a look and let you know. If no one has any idea and think a pic would help, I will try and take a pic tomorrow... Thanks in advance...

i dont know the name of them but we have them up here to. they almost look like a beetle but they are trimmed in red. and have kind of long antannas i havent seen them eat any of my plants but they do like to crawl all over my oak trees.

is this the bug you are looking for? its called the boxelder bug.

I don't think that is him. Thanks for the efforts, though. I will try and get a pic of them tomorrow. The one I have is more rounded and darker black with orange spots (4) on its back. Two on each side...

I don't know how to post a picture on a post but lady beetle larvae look like long, rounded, black bumpy bugs with 4 orange spots with some on the side.

I appreciate your guess, but after googling it, that is still not what I have. Sure wish it were. Keep an eye out on this thread and I will do my best to locate one and "make it say 'cheese'!!!" Thanks again for your input...

me too, now im interested to see what is reaking havock. it may just be a bug that eats dead organic matter....but you never know. we want to put this bug on a wanted poster if its not beneficial!

It's been crazy around the house lately and I only got to check mid morning yesterday, and couldn't find one. I will continue the search and if I can relocate one, I will post a pic of it... Thanks again, for the effort...

Bill, thanks to your suggestion, I think I have a canidate!!! Here is what I think my little 'buggar' was:
Handsome Fungus Beetle - Mycetina perpulchra - BugGuide.Net
Anyone seen or heard of this little guy before? If so, any worries?

Glad to of been of some help, I have no idea about the handsome fungus beetle, just found the site today, though my wife doesn't think the bug is very handsome, and she likes bugs! She married me didn't she
