I bought this labeled as a Raja Puri, and I just wanted everyones opinion as to if thats really what it is. I'm not questioning it really, but since the banana experts live here I just would like their opinion(s). As you can see it got a little tattered this winter.

Thanks in advance :)

Not sure what it is but you might want to relocate it away from your gas meter. These things have a way growing and pupping that requires some digging to keep them under control.:scroll:

It does look a little short and stocky. I'd say it does resemble my Raja Puri, which I got from a reliable source, Cough cough, Gabe. I think it originated at Going Bananas too.

Actually it's too close to the gas meter and too close to the car too!
At that size, it looks like several different ones, but you'll know for sure when it fruits.

I wouldn't think it would grow too big unless he waters the hell out of it. It is in Phoenix, after all. I'm actually glad its lasted this long.

Good growing, Darin!

PS- as a note, I don't mean any harm by this post. Darin knows me.....

Yeah I think one thing people need to be aware of is that things (especially big leafy things) don't get as huge here as they do in areas with higher humidty. Not that they can't, but it takes a LOT of work, and even more water, to get that kind of growth here. And the picture is deceiving. There is nearly a couple feet of space between it and the gas meter, and I don't think the "trunk" will ever get that wide and if it does, then I guess I'll dig it up then. But with my soil, super dry air (for about 4 months) and heat, I don't expect this banana to be breaking any records. If I can get 6ft of "trunk" I will be very happy.
