Today, I separated my first (and second) pups from my Brazilian banana before the next one flowers. The first one, I cut about 3/4 through the corm and got only a couple small roots on the corm, which was hanging from the rest of the pup. I doubt it's gonna make it but I cut it down to a foot tall and potted it, anyway. Will the corm regrow to the stem? Here is a pic of the other. It was on the pup that should flower soon, and I did not really want to take it. I learned those things are very difficult to separate!

You do not need any roots. As long as you have a sound piece of corm larger than a
walnut, you have the makings of a banana plant. It will only take a bit longer to develop.

The corm was nearly cut off the bottom of the stem. Will they grow back together, or should I cut it off and discard the stem altogether?

Not being able to see it directly, I still believe it would be best to cut the stem off
completely withe a sharp non-serrated knife and let the corm develop a new one.
The more smooth the cut, the less chance of disease entering. If the first cut
was
rough it is best to take another slice off at the corm end. The chance of
contamination is very small, but better safe than sorry, especially if you do not
have a lot of pups to fall back on.
