I just planted some velutina seeds. they are on top of a heating mat.
My question: How long do you leave the heat on and/or off?

I do not want to burn the seeds!

thank you for your reply.

You won't burn the seeds unless they are exposed to direct sun in a sealed container. None of those heat mats get hot enough to cook Musa seeds to my knowledge.

I have my seeds on a timer set at 19 hours off, 5 hours on. With Musa velutina, I think you could get good germination results with a number of combination.

Have you searched this forum for any posts relating to germination? There are lots of them, and very good information in them also. Check out the "Banana Seed Germination Forum."

I have actually cooked seeds before on a heat mat. The inside which are usally white turned yellowish brown. Like Frank said, a number of combos should work, just don't go over 12 hours on, and if the baggies feel too hot then just rise them up off the heat mat a bit.
