My plant arrived today. https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=0BwXCsqWT3wkXU1c1NzJGTldjc1k
its a Hardy Basjoo Banana plant. I do have 2 concerns that I hope can be answered.
1. I would like to plant this against my house. I'm concerned about problems with destroying my foundation. I've seen pictures of other who have done it and it doesnt seem to be an issue. But I just want to confirm.
2. Does the pups grow out of control? An example to what I'm asking would be bamboo. It can grow out of control and become a nightmare to maintain. How hard is it to keep the pups from spreading to far?
3. At this stage can I just plant it in the ground already?
I leave in Kingman, AZ which is a zone 8a

They are tender and wont hurt anything. You will find plenty of neighbors to take pups if you get lots over time.
I would plant not too close to the house to give it space to grow. They can grow tall so make sure it wouldn't damage anything in it's way in case it falls. Roots should not be a problem.
I guess you could plant it but I would wait for nights to be hotter. It would give it a better chance.

Thanks I feel better now. My last question is how do you protect it from the wind? We can have strong winds sometimes. Like yesterday it was really windy and I noticed the leaves took some beating. I almost have to build a box around the plant to protect it from the windows. But when it gets larger I wont be able to do that. Will the adult plant be able to handle strong wind? Or do I really need to rethink the location?

They shred but don't fall over. I just leave mine shred. Blocking wind is easier on the least windy side of the house. But for me means less sun.

The plant in your zone will require a lot of water during the growing season.
With one plant you will not have any problems at all.
Do a search on Youtube about this plant......better detailed stuff is found there.

Mine shred all the time. I am a firm believer in using banana fuel at least once a week. It seems it speeds up the growth and pushes new leaves out more often. I am laughing because these plants are just like kids. The first one you are very protective and would lay your life on the line for it. By the 3rd or 4th one you will be weed whacking within 1\4" of the corm.
