as i understand it, this is M. Sikkimensis x M. (AAB)Var. Chini Champa

can someone tell me where the name 'Helen's' comes from?

good news is i gave one of my neighbours a Basjoo last fall and he is now hooked! (its in his dining room and just putting out yet another enormous leaf) buying seeds of all sorts online. I can see Wiltshire overrun with Naners soon!! especially with the 350 corms inbound from India at present (which the Mrs. doesn't know about as yet) might take a bit of explaining away that one. :0489:

Is this true: Chini Champa = Helen's Hybrid ?

And who was Helen anyway?

No, Kev means Chini Champa crossed with Musa Sikkimensis = Helens' Hybrid.

Helen is the name of the woman who discovered it, and lives nearby the place where the seeds are harvested. As far as I know "Helens Hybrid" is a product name from Rare Palm Seeds, and not an official name.

Here is what you tell your wife. "Hey honey, I have 35 banana corms coming from India". Then practice this: "What the...did they send me 350 corms?!? I guess I should be happy I got 10 times the bananas for the same price, but this just shows there are still problems with the language barrier." Just remember this line only works once...unless your wife knows you as well as mine does, then it might not work at all.

Hi, 350 banana corms? I think, I have enough place for 350 corms in my yard in Brazil, this might be one total banana collection! If you can send some corms to Brazil, then send them to the dad of my guest daughter, he is one former banana farmer!

That wouldn't work at my house either. When I work weekends, I can usually intercept the mail delivery and shuttle the bananas right to the back yard for processing. Any more than a few corms is pushing it.

Hello, everybody!
O Musa Helen'hybrid many here in France have doubts as to its hardiness, some plants have been lost at temperatures in the range of -5 ° C Does the fact that these plants are from seeds or pups could have an impact?

You need to let her know who's the boss...Once you've told her and she knows she's in charge. you can get away with just about anything. She thinks its funny at the moment but she won't when she sees the credit card bill !!!

She knows I do what I want anyway, but if she doesn't see 'em, she can't bitch about 'em...

As for the credit card bill, we have separate accounts, and I don't use a credit card. If it ain't in the bank, then I guess I don't need to spend it...

Kev if all else fails and you still have a few 'Sikki's' to find homes for I'm willing.
