On Sunday we drove over the mountains to Santiago de los Caballeros for the annual carnival (but that's another story). With the end of the rainy season the trees were coming into flower and the hills were ablaze with the orange/red amapola trees.

The road verges were ablaze with flowers in the cooler mountain air - miles of wild impatiens.

An old man was drying cocoa on the side of the road - he was too shy to have his picture taken, but I got his shadow.

The island is crisscrossed with tectonic fault lines and here one plate has heaved itself up over 3ft on the right hand side, and these men were working to smooth the join for the traffic. Usually the movements are side to side.

Over the mountains now and the view of the sprawling city of Santiago from the restaurant at Camp David.

Thanks Daen - we came back the same day - a lot of driving but the dogs needed feeding.

Kyle - the scenery here is awesome - never get tired of looking at it.

I never get tired of looking at your photos Cassie!! I love seeing plants like Impatients in the wild because I forget that somewhere in the world... they do grow wild. I bought a small bag of cocoa beans afew months ago for more $ than I'm sure they were worth so we could experience where chocolate comes from. And here I get to see a snapshot of the beans laying out in the sun from your drive! You have such cool things in your spot of the world!
