Hi,

I'm new to the forum and had been interested in variegated varieties for some time but had limited succes with the ae-ae bought in the past.

I found a sport sucker growing from
a normal green clump in West Java in Indonesia and have been growing it.

So far, it seems to be doing well and maybe I could get it to fruit.

Any idea if it is a new variety or an existing one? The mother clump is an ordinary pisang batu or M. balbisiana which is edible but has seeds in the flesh.

It is spontaneous variegation. If it makes pups like itself then it is a new variety. Problem with spontaneous forms is that they can go back to green much easier. I grew a spontaneous bird of paradise for years until a major freeze came and killed it. Now I have a spontaneous cactus that I remove the green from.
