Am not sure where to place this news:
This weather pattern would normally flatten out banana plantations. This is the second hurricane like pattern to hit us this winter. Will be assessing the damage on Monday.
Chris Hind stated that the technical definition for this anomaly is extra-tropical cyclone.

I always called it the Pineapple Express
I hope my roof holds up this time.
The bananas are without leaves, so prolly safe...

It's definately a strong storm, we've been getting some of the best rain and snowfall in years. Hopefully the core winds will not rise above their current levels. Notice how they are coming once per week? Take a look at the Pacific satellite picture and you'll see another one lining up, waiting for a low to drop out of the Alaskan gulf.

Normally we would get the smooth curved pineapple express from the southwest direction, not a coiled one like this which can bring winds coming from the SE and SSE directions. Unexpected directions. Fortunately at this current SSE direction, my bananas are sheltered behind the houses.

Stay safe out there you guys!
If it looks like a powerline, it probably is!

During the 1980's I lived in McKinleyville, CA. Storms like this would "pop" out of the Alaskan gulf about once per week nearly all year long: in the early Fall battering the southern Alaskan coast and then week by week making landfall farther south until about the Russian River area in Dec-Jan, then working their way back up. In late February-early March they would hit points along the Lost Coast (King Range) up to Depot Bay OR. I recall in some of these storms it would rain an inch an hour for hours on end. The Sequoias of course just loved it.

We've had two such storms in Washington this winter. Very destructive and wet, high winds and of course power outages. Stay safe and dry neighbors, and hope your nanas survive.

Round 1 passed. Luckily my bananas and citrus were safe. I could see my pergola plat were shaking real hard and I thought it might uproot to its foundation.....
So far so good.
But very wet and soggy.
Were able to pull the weeds and cut the grass before the rain.....

The storm ended up not being very significant in the Central Valley. The strongest wind gust I saw was 27mph vs. forecasts of 50-60mph. We got about a half inch of rain. The early January storm was much stronger, similar to ones we get every few years. We now are expecting several days with sunny spring-like conditions.
