I've tried unsuccessfully to grow this fruit in San Diego, CA. My experience is that it slowly withers away after a few nights in the 35-40 (F) degree range, and it is killed instantly when the temperature dips over night for one hour below freezing (30 F). Are your experiences the same?

I don't have any passiflora right now, but i have some Passiflora Mollisima seeds on the pad. I heard it is quite a tropical plant that does not tolerate at all cold weather (35F min, zone 10).
Maybe you can check this: Buy Passiflora Seeds. Achat Graines Passiflores, Passion Fruit. (http://www.rarexoticseeds.com/Graines_de_Passiflora_Seeds.html)
I am planning to keep mine in a pot. I know that the local botanical garden keeps them in pots and many can flower.
This website also has tips on growing Passiflora Passiflora Online Passion flower FAQ, plant ID, growing tips, stunning hybrid & species images, pollinators & much more. (http://www.passionflow.co.uk/index.htm)

Actually, some species and hybrids of Passiflora do quite well here in San Diego and cooler climates as well; e.g., P. edulis. But what experiences of this community are there with Giant Granadilla (Passiflora quadrangularis) ?
Thanks!

Have not tried one yet. But here in Riverside, you can buy them at Home depot in the spring. $15.99 for a 4foot tall vine. 3 years in a row i have seen them for sale here at my local HD.
