Okay, I know I am no the only one that has gardening plans for this coming year. I just wanted to hear from you folks what you had planned for 2008. I for one have several, but one of the biggest projects is I am planning on extending my planting area at the end of the pool to accomodate some the new plants that I have received since last summer. I will be adding several new bananas, palms, ee's, hardy hibiscus, and brugs. Here are a couple of pics of where I will be adding to:

Here is part of the area that I will be changing, as of July '07.

Here is a few more shots taken yesterday, 2-12-08. The last two pics were taken from out the top bedroom window...

Nice Randy! can't wait to see what you do with it. I will have to take some pics, but I have a large area I want to turn into a large bed, with a possible water feature. I just can't wait for spring now... still about 1 1/2 months on the short side for us .....

I am going to be digging out stuff from the greenhouse that I trialed out and found to be hardy and planting them out. Like Crinum xanthophyllum for one.

Your home is beautiful Randy.

I'm finally about finished getting rid of some unwanted ficus, more room for bananas!

Randy,

I know we talked the other day about my new deck, but I thought I'd post it here for everyone. It looks like you've been really busy lately. Great work so far.

I just got a new deck. The old one was very small and got ripped down completely. I will landscape all around the new deck after lattice work gets put up.

I have started the landscape process of removing the sod. I like to get this work done while it's still cool outside. Digging up sod is hard work--that's for sure! After the sod is removed, landscaping edging will be put down, and the soil will be amended with cow manure and other ingredients.

I will plant some S. McCurtains, two yucca rostratas, many hardy bananas including Viente Cohol, Raja Puri, M. velutina, M. lasiocarpa (pups that I will separate), and a couple others. I also would like to add a camellia or other evergreens like Indian Hawthorne. Here is an overview of the project:

Randy: By the way, do you know you realize that you created a heart shaped bed just in time for Valentine's! :)

Thanks for sharing the pics, Austin... As far as my beds go, it reminded me more of a "dog's bone" when I was drawing it up. I like your idea better. It might let me off the hook for taking up the whole side yard with the wife. Her first comment was, "It takes up the whole yard!!!". I told her we were not using that part of the yard anyway. So maybe if I tell her I made the changes for her, and made it heart shaped, it would go over better. NOT!!!!

If you're planting all the stuff you have lined up under the new deck, its gonna be a rockin' yard! More pics later! I need ideas!

Nice deck! A deck can do so much for a yard. Someday I'd like to have deck with a board walk, and mass plantings of tropicals everywhere, so you can hardly leave the boardwalk.
