View Full Version : Welcome new members to Bananas.org

This message is twofold!
First, a warm welcome to all the new members!
Second, this message is to introduce to our members a brand new feature I just whipped up here in the Bananas.org computer lab :2738:
Now all the existing threads and future threads that are posted in the Member Introductions (http://www.bananas.org/f11/) forum have a button that looks like this:
http://www.bananas.org/images/buttons/post_welcome.gif
And you guessed it, you can click that button to quickly say "Welcome to Bananas.org" to the new member who has posted their introductory thread. :bananas_j
This will make it very quick and easy to welcome new members. It's useful if you don't have much to say aside from "welcome", or don't really have much time to post a lengthly reply, you can do it in one click.
It is similar to the "Thanks" system many of you are familiar with. However, the "Welcome" button only appears in the Member Introductions (http://www.bananas.org/f11/) forum and only appears for the first post in the thread. When you click it, your name appears in a list immediately below the first post as one of the members who said "Welcome" to the new member!
As goes with anything on the website, if you have any questions or comments I am very glad to hear them. And if you experience something strange with it's use, please tell me about it so I may investigate. I don't anticipate any problems with it (for now) but as we upgrade versions and the years go by, it may conflict with other things and perhaps stop working... :) so please tell me about it if you notice anything strange at any time.
I hope you enjoy this feature! Use it well! And - welcome new members!
Yours truly,
:banana-computer:

Jarred, I tried it and only the last person who gave a welcome shows up. Can we have it like the thanks function where all the names show up across the bottom of the message? Thanks.

Yea let me investigate that, that does not sound like the way it should be working.

OK I had to do it fresh from the ground up, please issue some welcome clicks and let's test this bugger out again.

Jarred, I joined here in '06 & never really introduced myself. I noticed I have 'welcomes' but don't know how I got them. How do you welcome someone who didn't post in 'member introductions'? Is there a way to find out who welcomed me? Today I noticed I have 2 more welcomes. Thanks.

Cordial enaf for ya, Pat? You want to go the whole yard and do an intro so the gang can jump in and thrash it? Would be fun though after having you around for so long. Haven't done any ragging since my school days. :ha:

Well, Jarred, not many people will even know that this feature exists and those who will know, are most likely daily visitors who wanna read entire intro section, bios... anyways... this is thread-wise, but I found there threads which are clearly not welcome button worth. :D
For instance the fertilizer question, which kinda reminds me, that I probably don't do as much moderating as I should. :ha:
OK, I'm silent now.

Yea, some threads if posted about Social Announcements or Good Wishes type threads are not appropriate to click Welcome.. but if its anything other, then, well.. mods should move it to a better place, :ha: :)

Anyway, is there a way to stop email notifications for "welcomes"? My mailbox is bombed now:ha::ha::ha:

Yes, currently working on that. I'm creating a setting to let you turn off those emails if you would prefer to not know when someone said "welcome" to you.

I split the forum into two and also moved around a lot of the threads to clean it up a bit, more info here:

Yes, currently working on that. I'm creating a setting to let you turn off those emails if you would prefer to not know when someone said "welcome" to you.
Please let us know when you set that up.
I live in a rural area and have to use an aircard with an email data limit, so I would prefer not to get the late welcome messages and spend my email allowance communicating with my wife in Iraq.
