mine is still in the ground now ...coming again in May i presume but i'm no sure it was really small when the frost was coming..

Hi 'bikoro child' I didn't know that they can tolerate some frost. how long is it in ground?

it's the first winter for it Ihave alocasia in ground too with colocasias...

great plants!! I didn't know that a saggitifolium can grow that big:D
I will plant it this year in a very big pot and give it lots of water and fertilize!:)

THese grow so large in Florida because of high water. These are actually on the smaller size, because I don't run my sprinklers daily and they are planted in a relatively dry area unless it rains. There are some that grow in bogs and ditches around here that can top 6 ft. with a leaf spread of almost 4 ft.
X. violacea is one of my absolute favorites. I have a stand in my yard. Its down at the moment, dormant after the big freeze we had a couple weeks ago. But it gets to about 4-5 ft in summer

Here is a pic of mine from a 4" pot last spring. Was in the ground for about 4 months when this picture was taken.

This winter, I have left two in the ground covered with plastic and another 6" layer of mulch. I dug one to store dry. A friend of mine has taken several of the "runners" that we cut off the corm when I dug it and has propagated MANY from these runners. I should have plenty to put out this spring if the ones from last year don't make it.
