These 3 palms are really only just starting to recover from the herbicide that blew over from next door. My icecream has reached to the top of its dog protection

Had the areca (I believe) hedge cut back as it was impossible to walk along the path. See how the grass has died from being in the shade.

I've never seen a sprouting coconut!!! I'm thinking maybe I should get a tropical mural for my wall. I could just blow your pictures up and paste them all over the place! ROFLMAO I love that walkway.

Cookie - I hope you are not afraid of spiders because that hedge is where the tarantulas hide. I love them. Mine are bigger than your hand and covered with dark chocolate fur. They are quite gentle and unafraid, and move quite slowly.

Slow moving sound ok .. do you have a picture of one?

We have little brown recluses that are fast moving and snakes in the old farm house my daughter and her husband are trying to make liveable next to us.

cookie tell your daughter to go to the animal shelter and adopt the ugliest, nasty tempered cat she can find. they usually make the best mousers. and they will kill the snakes too. if she dosent want a cat mothball crystals will get rid of poison snakes, but the crystals are no good for non-venomous snakes. my outside cats catch bugs too so there is a solution for her for the snakes, mice and bugs. just my .02 cents.

there is my coconut tree i want!!!!cassie, no fair!!lol

that's really interesting about the mothballs/poisonous snakes. I wonder why they dont' kill non poisonous? So far we're just dealing with cow snakes. When the mouse population goes down they know there is a big snake crawling around but they must be hybernating as the place is crawling with mice right now. OH they have a sugar glider and it killed a mouse that got into it's cage! That was a shock!

i know you are cassie!!! drool, drool, drool!. i think the reason the crystals dont work on the non-venomous is they dont have heat pits on their heads. the poison ones do and the ether in the crystals or the moth balls really affect them. my gramie, lived in middleburg fl and would use them around her property line to keep the copperheads and the mocasins out. this was after i almost got bit by a copperhead and 2 of her dogs got bit. they cant stand the ether. thats what i use in my yard for the copperheads, then again my outside cats kill everything else. when the mouse population gets bad the snakes move in. its like fast food for them. i dont like either mice or snakes.

mskitty - you are a mine of information. Luckily we don't have any poisonous snakes on the island, and the ones we do have the dogs just ignore. The rats that eat the coconut flesh have shiny coats like dark brown mink, and the grey rats are very pretty too with pale cream tummies. But I don't want them around the garden and the traps are always set.

Hello Cassie.Like the butterfly ginger. Ever thought of growing beehive ginger?(Zingiber spectabile) It would grow really well on your island paradise. I grow it here in large pots.

Mark - that is a real beauty! It should do well here too - definitely one to keep a lookout for! I intend to go out plant-buying, but I am in the process of clearing out a lot of plants that I had rooted in small pots, and that take up so much room and need watering. 14 balsa trees are going to new homes this week, and I have about 20 lemons, grapefruit and limes to rehome. THEN I am going to get some more big pots. But it takes a long time to search out the interesting plants so who knows what I will find?

Such beautiful pictures. Thankyou both!
My outside cats always get the snakes. I do enjoy seeing the snakes twirling around in the cats mouths. LOL The cats with the snakes always put on a good show for me here.
