Hi,

since January 20th I`m in Brazil in Lucianópolis, in the Brazilian state São Paulo, will stay until February 16th there. Yesterday we spoke with the seller and one notar, we are buying a house with a big yard of 3619 square metres for 145,000 reais or approx. 60,000 euros now. We have to transfer the money until March 15th. My new yard has many very beautiful fruit trees, citrus trees and I saw there the two beautifulest mango trees ever in my life, I will be their future owner! Big sweet and aromatic fruits, I love these both mango trees very much. Now I plan to plant a large banana collection in my new second yard in Lucianópolis, my first yard is in Hamburg. But I don´t love Germany, too cold climate and future nuclear war risk through Russia. I will sell the half of my yard in Hamburg, but my old dad still lives with his 84 years and makes problems in the selling of the yard in Hamburg. When he dies then I will sell immediately in Hamburg, I will emigrate in rates and slowly to Brazil, at the first my house with the big yard in Brazil will be my vacation site.

But there are only Maçã, Ouru, Prata and Nanica known and available. But I still do not know where are in Brazil banana nurseries with many banana varieties like Thousand Fingers, Praying Hands, FHIA-01, FHIA-03, Musa basjoo, sikkimensis, Rajapuri, Ice Cream, Orinoco, Ele Ele, Saba and many other banana varieties. Who knows Brazilian banana nurseries or banana sources with so many varieties? I want to build one large banana collection in Brazil up! :2236:

Best thanks in advance!

Hi Joachim

sounds like a great plan.

I have a guy who works for me who used to live in florianopolis. he said it was ok except that the whole country seemed to work on bribes and there was a definite risk of getting murdered (a bit like south central LA or indeed Manchester....JOKE)

I would guess your best bet is to buy from the states or india maybe?

Us fools left in the cold zone are counting on you to breed us up some cold hardy edibles.

" and there was a definite risk of getting murdered...."

If I were you I would take hid of what Kev had said.
Yes, you will be happy for the first 6 months or so and start building and planting your dreams.
But when you start getting black envelope asking for money or else something will happen to one of your families....
Then, you'd start shaking and wanted to get out of there.
So better start asking other foreigners living in that area before you invest.
Here in the US although you pay higher taxes, your piece of mind is the out most important.

Hi,

but Lucianópolis is one of the safetest areas of Brazil. It is very much more dangerous to live in the town São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro self! Once the mom of my host daughter left her house to go shopping. As she returned, I told her that I was kept her house like a housesitter and thought there is a risk to let the house with one opened door alone. But she told me, that it`s not dangerous that one thief will come and steal. She said, there in Lucianópolis are no thieves and here are no problems or very rarely problems with criminalism. You see also, that São Paulo is much more dangerous than Lucianópolis.

Today the mom of one friend of my wife told me that it`s possible to name my house after paying and owning, because my house is still named chácara Nº 35, I will name it Chacára "Jardim de Banana" ("Banana Garden", "Bananengarten") :2748:

Yes, I will bring corms of basjoo, seeds of sikkimensis, velutina and Helen`s Hybrid to Lucianópolis in August and will try to cross Musa basjoo with fruit bananas to get hardy fruit banana for the colder areas of the world. And I will try produce seed of Musa basjoo to export to seed merchants and try to change so that everyone will can buy seed of Musa basjoo from Brazil everywhere, like Musa sikkimensis, cheesmani, velutina and other Musa species.

At first I live only in the vacations in Brazil, will go to Brasil 2 times per year for 3 to 4 weeks. The dad of my host daughter will be my house and garden sitter, he has experiences in growing bananas. He is one former banana farmer! Today he works as a trucker for one wood company. I will emigrate in rates, the house will also be my retirement place.

Best wishes

Oh yes, my banana book is ready. One reference copy is now sent to me to my German site. And my lector in Freiburg, he works now in the cancer research, will check my book now. After the return from Brazil I will check the reference copy.

Juachim:
It appears that it is a safe place to live.
You will enjoy living there in the future. And make your dreams come true.
Happy banana growing!

Yeah, tomorrow I must return to Germany and will transfer money on Monday for my yard and house in Brazil. Today I got one pup of Musa "Prata" and I will pot it in the next week and plant it in May into the banana bed with Musa basjoo "Sakhalin" and Helen`s Hybrid at my greenhouse out. I will dig it in the fall out again and overwinter it in the greenhouse like Musa "Dwarf Orinoco". "Prata" is as hardy as "Dwarf Orinoco".

If the payment of my yard in Brazil is successful, then I will return on August 23th to Brazil.

Best wishes
