What size of a conainter do I need to grow this banana indoors ? It is growing in front of a wndow and seems to be doing fine, but I was wondering if I put a heat pad under it...would that help it or does it matter ?

the size of the pot all depends on how big currently the plant is ,and as far as bottom heat you will not need to do that I try to keep my bananas that are inside my house in the winter a little on the dry side, until spring starts to get closer and your day light hours get longer,,than when that happenes you will see your plant grow faster and their for need a little bit more water, hoped this helped-Jason.

It is about 3 feet tall and I have had it about 3 weeks so that is a foot a week...wow, at this rate it is going to need a new pot soon .

Hi again I would then plant it into a 5 gallon pot! hope this helps-Jason.p.s or some go by inch size of pot so you would want maybe a 10 inch pot!

Hi Linda. Glad to hear Monty is doing so well!

It will grow in a surprisingly small pot, as long as you keep it well fed and watered when it is really steaming along. It grows fast and will easily put on feet of growth.

It won't need a heat mat as it sounds like it's already off and running.

What is the winter like, down in Alabama? It may need protecting if it gets cold over winter.

Hey Flowerpower,
If you don't mind me asking where did you get the "monty" from in the US. I've only seen it in the UK so far.

I am supprised to hear its not available over there. I would have thought that Agristarts would be mass producing it.

What about Ensete Hiniba is that just as rare ?

Nope I don't think it's available either(first I've heard of that kind). Can't really tell the difference between it and others when I googled it. You guys in the UK have alot longer history with E.ventricosum, so that's probably why. Thanks for clueing me in on a new form of ventri. Makes me want to start to a new thread on Ensete ventricosum forms and see what pictures pop up.
Agri-starts used to tissue culture E.glaucum, and E.superbum 5 or so years ago, but they stopped for some reason.
