I just joined this group after visiting for a while. My husband and I enjoy gardening, especially fruiting plants. We started growing bananas a few years ago. Our first banana was a Dwarf Nam wa that turned into a 22ft plant! We have since tried other varieties but so far the Nam wa has the best taste. Nice to be here!

Welcome springtime how did your bananas weather Our last freeze? I am from Brandon also and mine came though with some damage but are pushing new leaves now. I went though some trouble covering them though and it seemed to have worked. Some of the neighbors bananas did not fare so well. So it was worth my trouble.

We were not able to cover them because most of them were taller than the house (see my intro post). Also, we spent most of the time covering our mango that we have been trying to nurse thru the first few years (we were successfull). The bananas look bad but it looks like only the leaves died. I am seeing some green leaves starting to push out now. I am not so sure about our younger mysore's that we just planted last year. Time will tell. I am not so sure how some of our other tropicals fared. We have a Rollina that may have died (we wrapped the trunk but it was too tall to cover completely). Our pineapples came thru just fine and were not covered. However they were in a somewhat sheltered location.
