Hi
I was over in florida 3 weeks ago and (as you do) collected some tree seeds on my travels. Can anyone help ID the trees for me.

the first photo is of some acorns which i picked up just outside the Sarasota botanical gardens, species ?
the second photo is of some seeds collected in Naples (lovely place) they came in a great big (8") long seed pod, species?

thanks in advance for the help, they're both in the nana propagator

The one from Naples looks like a form of the Flamboyant tree, or Poinciana tree. It looks like the type with yellow flowers, because of the length of the seed pods.

Oak is probably "Quercus virginiana", the Southern Live Oak.
I grow it here and the squirrels love those acorns, they look very familiar!
They're like a weed here, the baby oak trees pop up all over the property.

Kev the long seeds look very much like Delonix Regia. They have very tough outer cases so you may need to file it a bit. I have seen seed pods from them at 18" long or more.
