Ensete Maurellii is an Ensete Ventricosum. The Maurellii is the red leafed cultivar of the plant, also called the 'Red Abyssinian' or 'Autropurpureum'. There is also just Ensete Ventricosum which is basically the same but w/out the red leaves and has red in the mid ribs. It is simply called an 'Abyssinian Banana' or 'Red Rib'. As far as hardiness the two should be the same. Hardy to z9 from what I know. Hope this helps!-Nate:colorwoot: :colorwoot: :colorwoot:

I had a 'Maurelii' here in SE TX that I overwintered outside for two years, in the ground. First year it made it through OK, second year it kind of struggled and seemed to be rotting at the base. It started to grow again but never really took off and eventually died later that year. I think they [I]can [I] be over wintered in zone 9, but I think it is pretty chancy too. In the words of Dirty Harry, "Do you feel lucky, punk?" Good luck what ever your choice!
