Im Overwintering Five Medium Bananas In Pots In My Sunroom With A 1000 Watt Light On Them For About 8 Hrs. A Day. I Mist Them Once Or Twice A Day But The Leaves Are Still Browning And There Is No Sign Of Growth. Do I Need A Humidifier? Was Hopeful To Continue Growth...

Iam very new new to tropicals. I have mine in the basement. I have made a mini GH down there for them. They are enclosed in basically a plastic tent!{Wish i had a digital camera) In there i have a humidifier and flourescent lights. Some of the leaves are browning around the edges on the bananas and other leaves are I think going thru their winter time dormancy thing, drying out. I mist at least once a day. The temp stays for right now in there, between 59&62 degrees. Mine are beautiful. {To Me.} Ive never ,ever, paid attention to the temp in my basement before! This is all so very new to me. I like it though! This bananas business is going to be trial and error for this part of the country for myself this 1st year. But the rewards, Ahhhhhhhhh................You are gonna find the best method for you, right here. Gotta problem,......... these folks help with a solution. Iam Z6. Cincinnati OH. I believe :moonwalknaner: by May 08 the bananas, living in the house, or the basement, dormant ,under the house,in a pot,cellar.....any condition not tropical for them, they gonna not look so good. Some things you live with. Half the fun of this, is to grow lots of plants that we know are not hardy to our areas; I read that "You should never consider a plant to be TENDER until you have PERSONALLY killed it at least twice.but using our skill and gardening sense, adventuristic natures,....we may SUCCEED!!!!!! Or we may not. A little browning on the edges will not hurt the plant. Look at this......I gotta go from now till sometime in May08. Whatever i have learned about nannas to get them thru this winter, ive learned alot here, and my own gardening expertise. Just keep reading, welcome to Bananas.org and have a great day! Magicgreen
p.s. we still need a banana convention..........:2731:
