Hello I am looking for a dicksonia antarctica ( tasmanian tree fern ) with a few feet of trunk on it. If its a nice sized one, I would be willing to trade an AE-AE banana plant or pay cash. If your interested email me. Also if you know of selling one out right please let me know.

Mike,
I got one this past summer/fall from a friend in Atlanta. He found them at the "flagship" Home Depot. They had about 8-10" of trunk already forming. We got them for about $20 (3 gallon size). If you know someone in the Atlanta area, it may be worth checking out. If you need the exact Home Depot location where he located them, let me know and I will see if I can't find out for you...

I will wait to see if you can locate one, which I kinda doubt being that far south. You may luck up, though. If you are unsuccessful, let me know and I will see what I can come up with...

Thanks randy, I found a place that sells them here but dont have any in stock. They get theres from Monrovia in Cali. They said they can get them with maybe 2 to 2 1/2 foot trunk on them and would have to special order it if I want it now or wait until they get a shippment in the spring.

Mike J . . . You are talking about a box over 6' P.O. will not take it and UPS (I think) has a limit of 6' A three foot trunk is going to be about a 50# box. Also . . . I think the tree ferns at Home Depot or plants from anywhere in Florida are not Dicksonia. Most are labled Hawian Tree Fern, another specie ? There are many small Tree Fern "babies" 1',2' etc here in Puerto Rico that I would be glad to get for you. I go up the mountains every couple weeks. Also . . . There is a yahoo group called "Tree Ferns" You might want to search ? Logos

I had a friend in Homestead Florida named "Robert Chumley" in 1970 Is it possible you are the same ? Did you ever live on Coconut Palm Drive ? Are you originally from Georgia ? Robert was heavy into Organic Gardening. Such a small world, I would believe anything.
I also have a brother and a sister living on Countyline road . . near you ?

No, I'm sorry Formontaclamus, but I'm a different Robert Chumley. I was in Tampa and Lexington , Ky. in 1970.But, I find very few people with the same name. My 13 acre Estate is only 1 mile from County Line Road and Hwy. 60
Also for Mike........Do not settle for other tree ferns. The Hawaian tree fern is not cold hearty at all, and others are not up to par either.
