Yeah, Loofa will sprout like lightning, especially in the Spring / Summer heat. A lot like sprouting Pumpkin or Gourds.

I sold Red Castor Bean last year, and now they are for sale on a nursery website. It makes me feel good to see stuff like that.
Amazingly, I have never been able to sprout my own Canna seeds in controlled conditions. I have, though, sprouted tons that I planted in the ground. Haha Weird, eh?

i went to a canna website, and they said for the canna seeds to soak them for 24 hrs in warm tap water, and then scarify the seeds to hasten germination. they said if you cant scrape the outside of the seed w/ a file, to poke a small hole in the seed, only deep enough to see the inside white of the seed.they said even doing this it could take 6-8 wks. to see any sign of life....so we wait. :islandsharkbanana:. in a couple weeks i may end up planting some more loofa, my mom wants plants.."not the seed". i do the work and she gets the plants. ha ha. i planted some "fall glo" tangerines this morning. and im gonna slaughter my daughters ponderosa lemon tonight! may end up flaying my other 2 poms tonight. im running out of pots. might have to make a trip to walleyworld. they have pots on clearance.

I throw canna seeds into water that has just gone off the boil. It cracks the seed coating. Seeds germinate a day or afterwards. A bit disconcerting though, listening to all the pops and cracks going on

question guys...
I have recently planted canna seeds (using the nick and soak method) and so far one has come up...or at least I think it has. It's not pretty. It's like a semi-buried white ball with arms of verything length that curve up and back down to the soil LOL. I have a feeling it is roots that came up out of the soil and now are saying "oops, wrong way." Am I right in thinking that is what it is? I wish I could say the seedling was cute... ;-)

I've had great sucess with canna seeds. I file them down just tell I see white inside. Place them in a container w/ moist perlite then they all sprout. I got many now that I potted up to one-gallon containers.
