Hi all, I'm new here, my name is . and I live in the Netherlands, I've got now only 3 species": the Musa basjoo, velutina and a Musella.
a week ago, I received from somebody free seeds; 25 Ornata, 10 x balbisiana and 6 x Itinerans.
this is my first time and i wanna get some seedlings out of the seeds, but how?
I don't have many things to let them germinate, but here is how I'm doing it now:
first I soaked them for 2,5 days in warm water.
now they are in a pot with ground:p
they're standing on a dark place, with temperaturs around the 28 degrees.
I can make it warmer >40 maybe or cooler > 19.
I read that musa's are light germinaters (good english??:p) so sometimes I let them stand for the window by 18 degrees, or under a lamp ( DOES THAT HAVE EFFECT?)

I hope you can give my tips and pics,

I'm getting over a few days also some ensete seeds, and i need also help with that, I think;)

Hi Daen, welcome to b.org.
Light doesn't really matter with germinating Musa or Ensete species. I have germinated in a dark closest many times on a heat mat. Basically all that matters is tempature fluctuations. If you can get a heat mat with a timer that works good when set to 5-12 hours on, the remaining hours off. Also in a window with a little sun to warm them up in the day sometimes works if in spring and fall(possibly winter). Or you can also wait till spring and put them outside or in a greenhouse where they will naturally get the tempature fluctuations that they need.

thanks for reaction!!
almost everybody said to me that musa's are Light sprouters, that is wrong you said, that's good! I can make temperature differences, on my room it's 19 degrees and on the 'warm' place 28, enough temperature difference:2744:

If the're germinated, I'll let you know;)

daen

E. ventricosum, E.gluacum, and E.superbum (Indian form) seem to be really easy to sprout, and usally do so quicker, and easier than Musa.
Ensete superbum (Thai Form), and Ensete perrieri seem alot more difficult(nearly impossible) to sprout.
