View Full Version : HELP with banana trees
:2733: I am new to this group . I have about 10 banana trees in my yard. They have been in the ground for over 5 years. They all have no fruit.
Should I cut them down and start over?
Any help would be appreaciated.
Thanks

K2au you had these plants for five years and they never fruited? K2au I don’t believe cutting them down will help. Do you know what kind of bananas you have? Feed and water them and they will fruit. Post some pics. Read some of the information the pros post.

I can't see any better answer than that! In my point of view that is. Count me in on the line up.

I should cut them away just above the ground, and when they come back, cut again away;)
maybe it's easier to seperate the pup from the mother.;)

k2au, at the plantations growers typically limit the number of pups to 2 per plant; one to become the next mother and the other slightly smaller. suckers draw from the mother as long as they are attached, this can be what is keeping you from getting flowers - the mother cannot build up the stores to develop a floral stem it is feeding too many suckers.
another thing preventing you from flowers is too much N, fertilize with a fert high in K, it ideally should be higher than the amount of N you are giving. you can get good flowering with a 6-6-6 or 10-10-10 but the best will come with something like 10-10-30 or 9-3-27.
