This is the latest update to my garden timeline for 2007 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The pics are mainly castor beans, cavendish & musa basjoo bananas and elephant ears. The castor beans got up to 21 feet by early October. Link:http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/slideshow/559502445tbXlfw

That was great Jurassic - wonderful garden - where did the house go? lol. Such a good idea, wish I had thought of it when my house was new!

Wow!
That's neat!
I thought at first your plants are papayas but I was wrong!
You owe to try that next year.
There are some varieties that will grow from seed to fruit maturity in 8 months.

Very nice show but would like to know what those other plants are that were trying to steal the show from the bananas. The look like some of my weeds that I whack back! LOL
Jarred, don't show-off with our papaya because you may wake up some morning to find them all gone. I'm sure your dog would like me! ;) I've got a single papaya growing inside right now and will try fruiting it outside next summer and I will be trying to start seedlings of some others in a month or two. I'm afraid our climate is a bit dry for some of these things but I'm hoping to put up an overhead misting system.

Thx, I bring my cavendishes in. I dig them up, ball & burlap and let go dormant in my basement. The musa basjoo just stay outside...

Have you ever had a Cavendish to flower? I live a little north of Cincinnati.

Awesome Jurassic... I remember your timeline from last year from the "other" site.
You Cavendish's do just fine in the basement then? Thats good to hear. I'll do that next year for mine. Do you mulch or cover your Basjoo's?

Just to add in, I have 3 potted Ice Creams growing in my basement under 4, 100 watt equivalent compact fluorescents and 2 heat lamps. The lights are on a timer for 10 hours per day. I am watering less than in summer but they are doing great, a very rich green and putting on big leaves. They are doing much better than when they were in a big east facing glass wall. I am even thinking fruit (maybe) this fall.
