View Full Version : Red or White Iholene?

The Red Iholene from Going Bananas resurrected with one good pup after the mama corm died. It looked so good I put it in the ground a few weeks ago. The weird thing is, it does not look like the replacement I got this summer. Several nurseries mention that Iholene comes Red, White from a class called Haa.
Does anybody agree with the above? No matter to me as I am looking forward to this very tasty banana from "Iho Whateverensis".

Samantha, I think yours is Red as in Jamaican, Cuban, or even Dwarf( if it says so). Iholenes are different.
Congrats on the new leaf!

I am mistaken. I thought it just said "Red" but now I know it said "Red Iholene". There is a Banana plant called "Red" and I thought it was that.

None of the above. No.1 looks correct on the underside, but haven't seen it with red splotches on the top. No. 2 doesn't look correct at all.

I think the bottom line to this thread is -------one nursery sends one thing ------and another ships another ------- you say bananers, and I say banahnas!!!
Yes Terry, it is yours. Looks great doesn't it. Looking forward to the fruit, no matter what.
Side note ---- just started the liquid kelp and humic acid applications ---- potted and planted in ground ------expect dramatic results as the potted sick Siam Ruby and Ensette Maurelii have shown accelerated growth!!!!!!!!!!!

ok... being the fact that there is some descrepency as to whether my lil tree is a red iholene/white iholene, or somethig totally different,:2141: i would appriciate some one who can tell me what kind it is. i bought it from the banana-tree and the banana plantation they have is in equadore, could it be a red iholene, just too young to be red????? im clueless in sparta.. thank you.ive tried to find a pic of a red iholene pup so i could do my own detective work, however i just find pics of mature trees.

the dark spot on the underside of the leaf is water, i wash my hands before i touch my banana trees trees. (qualify for banana fiend?)

i live about 4 miles from the bottom of bonair mountian.this is at the base of the cumberland platue. in the spring it is lush green providing we have rain.in the fall the color change to the trees are just awe inspiring. you get to see the stars at night, no bright lights to cover them up . the ground here is clay, and there is a lot of sandstone. there are a lot of caves in tn. the weather dosent get to bad here.( unless its cold.) i live in the middle of town. i joke about it being a hillbilly-redneck town. it is that way. most people dont care how many cars are 'growing' in their yards. i have devised a plan to block out the neighbors children from tromping through my roses ever again. ha ha. people here dont care what their children do - nor do they attempt to watch their children.its a lot like the big city, just with small town attitude.
