Hi from Fort Pierce, FL. I have several banana trees of unknown species growing in my backyard. One of them currently has a large bunch of green bananas. How do I know when the bananas are done developing, and it's time to pick the bunch???
Thanks!

When one or two of the bananas turned yellow then you can cut it down and hang the bunch upside down in your garage.

On mine, when the first little bananas appear from under the petals of the flower bud, I write the date somewhere on the last leaf stem in black marker. Most of mine start to ripen within a week or two after 4 months from that date. But I usually wait until I see one starting to turn yellow.

Terry,

Thanks for the tip on when to cut down the fruit. I was about to put out that question to the forum since Dwf Orinoco #1 seems to have finished plumping out. Hope DO #2 stalk will grow to 1 foot beyond last fruit hand soon. Don't want to have cut the DO #1 stalk with the swarm of bees and wasps the male flowers on #2 have attracted.

Not to mention the neighborhood resident bobcat.

Will start writing the date on the stalk also.

Thanks,

Dan
