KingoTopanga here. I live in Topanga, California, USA, on the west coast, Western Garden zone 22-23. I have a group of Raja Puri, and a group of Dwarf Cavandish (at least that's what I was told), both doing well, except the DC has not produced flower or fruit in over 2 years in the ground. The RP, on the other hand, has produced several flower stalks with fruit in the same 2 years. The fruit seems small to me, possibly because the trees spent a lot of time in a pot before the ground. I am just getting flowers now on stalks that grew completely in the ground, and they seem larger and more robust.
I want to know about treatment of the fruit stalk, and when to harvest. In the interest of largest possible fruit, I left some on the tree too long last year, and the whole lot died. Oops!
Am I supposed to cut off the flower at the end of the stalk? I was recently in Thailand, and ALL the flower stalks I saw on trees there (there were lots) were cut off below the fruit. I think they eat the flowers there, so that may be the reason, or is it something to do with fruit ripening/production?
Any ideas why my DC have not produced any flowers or fruit? They are planted right next to the RPs.
Happy to have found this forum! Any info welcome.
