KingoTopanga here. I live in Topanga, California, USA, on the west coast, Western Garden zone 22-23. I have a group of Raja Puri, and a group of Dwarf Cavandish (at least that's what I was told), both doing well, except the DC has not produced flower or fruit in over 2 years in the ground. The RP, on the other hand, has produced several flower stalks with fruit in the same 2 years. The fruit seems small to me, possibly because the trees spent a lot of time in a pot before the ground. I am just getting flowers now on stalks that grew completely in the ground, and they seem larger and more robust.

I want to know about treatment of the fruit stalk, and when to harvest. In the interest of largest possible fruit, I left some on the tree too long last year, and the whole lot died. Oops!

Am I supposed to cut off the flower at the end of the stalk? I was recently in Thailand, and ALL the flower stalks I saw on trees there (there were lots) were cut off below the fruit. I think they eat the flowers there, so that may be the reason, or is it something to do with fruit ripening/production?

Any ideas why my DC have not produced any flowers or fruit? They are planted right next to the RPs.

Happy to have found this forum! Any info welcome.
Scott

Hello Scott, i know some people cut the flower at a certain stage of ripening,
others not, I also don't know the exact moment to do it if you decide to do it anyways..

Welcome!!!

Scott,

Its nice to hear from a local SoCal banana grower.I just live a little north west from you over the mountains over into Ventura County at the top of Topanga west of the SFV.How are your RajaPuri doing since starting to grow them.Do you live in the south, middle, or north end of Topanga Cyn because I bet you get alot of sun in your yard.

Welcome
