Hey Dean,

The bottom leaves on my zebrina did the same thing when the temps here took a nose dive and it rained for 3 days. I have since moved mine into my greenhouse and it is looking a lot happier.

Do you leave yours in the ground? I am a zone colder than you. I don't think mine could survive our winters.

Hi Bill,

It's the first year for this one. It has two pups that I hope I don't loose. It will have stay outside as I don't have a green house.

I think in zone 8 your bananas will not survive outside .

Greenie,

It is still alive for now. Cold front due by Tuesday, we'll see if it takes the brunt on that one.

bencelest,

UGH! Don't tell me it's not going to make it! I paid like $25 dollars for it. How about if I mulch it real well and it's on the South side of a retaining wall.

If I were you I'd dig it up and plant it in a small pot just big enough to put the roots and pups. Then I'd take a chance to put them in your garage at the darkest corner without giving it water. Let it go dormant there. But better still if you have a room inside your house I would do that.
That's what I am going to do with my Double Mahoi.
I had a Zebrina last year and I tried to protect it with clear plastics and Christmas lights and inside a covered patio with cover on top and around it and I am in zone 9 but it did not make it. The rest of my bananas survived including a California Gold including its blooms.

Ben,

So even if they freeze to the ground they wont come back, huh? http://www.plantoftheweek.org/week271.shtml This site says they are good for zones 8-11. My wife would have a fit if I brought another plant inside of the house. They may have to go into the garage.

I forgot to tell you my ae ae did not make it either.
But I sweet talk my wife to put some of my bananas and citrus in the kitchen and 'bribed' her.
And also my bananas were smaller than yours at that time.
Joe Real said that any bananas that are three feet or below should be protected.
Mind you I am not an expert giving advice. I am a novice just like you.

I'd say charged it to Experience. You gain some you lose some. That's my life is.
No use to mull over a spilt milk. I'd just go forward and forget the whole thing.
One thing I am very anxious to have is bloom in my dwarf Brazilian. Not now. Come Spring that is.
Good luck to you.

Benny,

I did it! I dug up my Zebrina and put it in the garage. I did it yesterday because it froze last night.

Dean:
How's your Zebrina doing? Good or bad news?

So far all of my bananas are doing OK. I'll post pics soon.

It made it through the cold weather last night. I'll get a picture of it. Today, the high is 65* and tonight it supposed to get down to 38*. So back to the garage it goes after spending the day outside.
