Well, todat was the last day in the 70's and with the nights dropping into the 30's I decided it was time to dig up my Ensete and store it under my house. The Bannana weighed close to 200lb, the wheelbarrel it is in is a double wheeel big 8. Needless to say next year I will be in need of a greenhouse.

Wow! Now that was definitely a job. Considering we just dug up my "Dwarf" Cavendish tonight – which we suspect weighed close to 150# – and had a tough time getting it out of the hole & onto my yard wagon, I must say I'm impressed. Since you obviously survived the ordeal :), would you mind sharing your method you've found easiest for pulling them out & and getting them in the wheelbarrow? And ... great job.

Andrea,

Once I excavated around the bannana I used my hands to free up any roots that came off the sides I then just used my arms. I guess it helps being 6'5" 250lb.

Hi,

Do you keep the plant with no leaves in dark place? And in the winter do you go to check or the rootball is not to dry?

I have been busy to dig up al my Ensete's, but normally i pot them up en place them in the greenhouse. Bt i have alway's problems with that, so now i want to bring them to a dark place sooo ?

I put them in a crawl space under my house so it stays dry and cool. I have been trying to get my own greenhouse now for 2 years but now I am not so sure if you say the Ensete's do not do well. What problems do you encounter?

hi to everyone...Concerning the overwintering of ensete i usually cut the leaves and cover the trunk with bags and let it in place for all the winter ...Last year it survived with a -10°C night...I ll post you some pics when i'll do that (soon i presume)
