This is my first year for basjoos. I have approx 12 different stands of them (lots)on my property. I have started to build cages around them and fill them with a couple feet of mulched leaves. I plan on cutting the psuedostem to 12" and filling the cage with the leaves. I've read that some do what I'm doing plus cover them with a tarp. What do you do? I"m not wanting to buy that many tarps for all of them. Any suggestions? Will they be ok with the cage of leaves and no tarp?

Cover it with plastic to keep it dry. They will live, but you will loose more p-stem if they are wet.

You might go to somewhere like a furniture store and ask them to save the plastic that mattresses come in or even couches, and double up. just a thought. REUSE-RECYCLE!!:2760:

Doesn't plastic promote rot? The pseodostem must still have a lot of moisture in it.
