I know I have seen this information somewhere (in one of my banana books) but cannot remember the source and cannot seem to find it again.
When in the life of a banana plant is the size of the bunch (number of hands and fingers) determined? I seem to remember it being very early in the life cycle of the plant but do not remember the exact number of weeks/days.
Many Thanks

I think I saw it in a post on here. I think it was Gabe, but I'm not sure.

I have read somewhere that it is when a pup is less than 24" tall. And I think there is some truth to that, but stresses later in life can clearly decrease production as well. A stressed pup seems to generally to have stunted vigor and growth.

ya, the first couple months after planting are very important. as mentioned by pitangadiego, they can have a great start and then be stressed later in life and have smaller than normal bunches, but if you take good care of them all the way thru the first months can be important.

I've heard also that it's determined when your fruit is mature.
If friends come over to look, you bunch can suddenly become much smaller. ;)
