From when they are about 4' tall (tall varieties to tip of leaf) I plan on 2 to 2-1/2 years in San Diego. Saba was about an extra year. The dwarf varieties, for me, have been about 2 to 2-1/2 years from a good sized sucker. The reds have also been a little slower than the green ones. Fastest was Sweetheart (about 18-20 months). For me, Mysore has lagged by at least a year.

And then yearly after that? That few years of corm development has to help some?

Thereafter depends on variety and pup management. Some varieties pup almost immediately, and you could have a second bunch 6 months later. Pups on other varieties have pups that are still very small even when the parent is hanging fruit and thus are 2-3 years away.

pitangadiego, what kind of time are you looking at for a Dwarf Orinoco from good sucker in San Diego? I was born in San Diego and still have family there so am curious.

I can see a bloom in 12-14 months here in the east bay area.

My Dwarf Orinocco was a tissue culture, and is probably getting close to flowering, so don't know what its' performance from a sucker would be. I am guessing that it would be in line with most of the others. It is two years old now, from small tissue culture.

Rick, At first planting, what size are they? Are they nice size suckers or small tissue culture plants? If planting large suckers, you could see fruit in 7-9 months with the smaller growing varieties, 9-12 months for the medium size plants and about 18 months for Saba. Dwarf Red will most likely take 24 months and then yearly thereafter. These have been my observations from growing bananas in West Central Florida. I have grown most of those you listed at one time or another.
