View Full Version : Anyone growing 'Rose'
I have a 'Rose' plant I got in a trade. Is anyone growing it and what can I expect in regards to size and fruit?

I have one that's about 2' tall.
This is info from the seller where I got mine:
The slender pseudostem displays a soft reddish color and grows rapidly.
The small fruit are very sweet and delicate.
Resistant to fusarium wilt, grows 6-8 ft. tall.

This is my second year with Rose and it has bloomed both years. Last year it got a late start and the fruit did not ripen before frost but it went from an 18 inch tall rootless sucker in April to blooming in mid-September. This year it bloomed faster than any other of the bananas and should ripen in good shape. The plant has about 6 feet of pseudostem (working from memory here, I'm at work and cannot measure it until I get home). The growth habit is more erect than most others (similar to Balbisiana). I really like this plant and it pups like mad. I think I counted 13 around my mother stem last weekend. At least 2 thumbs up on this one.

After I got home I checked my height estimation. It is closer to 7-8 feet of pseudostem not 6, but I still give it multiple thumbs up.

Probably one of the smallest fruits, but very full flavored. It suckers profusely, has 6-7' of trunk when it fruits, leaves are very erect, pinkish pseudostem, very good ornamental quality. Roots are tougher than most, it reacts easily to disturbed roots, but needs agressive thinning to get fruit to size up and mature.

Okay, so heres another one Ive got to try! Im curious whether this is the variety that I tasted in Ecuador. Termed 'rosado' or 'pink' there, it was a favorite of mine. Anyone recommend a good source of this variety?
